How this works
It reads like a visual novel. Click to keep going — that is most of it.
Reading
- Click anywhere
- Moves to the next line. If the line is still typing itself out, the first click finishes it instantly and the next one moves on — so you never have to wait for the text.
- Space or Enter
- Does the same thing, if you would rather keep your hands still.
Things you can touch
- Anything that lights up
- Some things in a scene react to your cursor: they glow, and a small label tells you what they are. Click one to look closer. Only the object itself responds, not the box around it — if it is glowing, it is clickable. A ↗ means the link leaves this site, and it will open in a new tab so you keep your place here.
- Choices
- Sometimes a line ends with a few options instead of carrying on. Pick one to go that way. Nothing is permanent — you can always come back and take the other route.
The bar along the bottom
- Back
- Steps to the previous line. At the start of a chapter it takes you back to the one before.
- Reload
- Plays the current line again, from its transition to its last word.
- Forward
- Steps ahead again after going Back — or simply moves on, the same as clicking. It will not choose for you when choices are on screen.
- Instant Text
- Turns the typewriter off: every line arrives whole. Switch it on midway through a line and that line finishes at once. It stays as you left it the next time you visit.
- About / Help
- This page, and the legal notice. Both keep a link back to exactly where you stopped.
Back and Forward grey out when there is nowhere to go. Instant Text is underlined while it is on.
Saving
Your place is kept for you automatically — close the tab and the story picks up on the line you stopped on. Nothing is sent anywhere; it lives in this browser and nowhere else.
For more than that, open Savegames from the ☰ menu. It holds as many saves as you like, each with a name you choose and the time it was made, in a list you can scroll.
- Save current progress
- Takes a named snapshot of where you are now. Your automatic place is untouched — a save is a spot you can deliberately come back to later.
- Load
- Returns you to a saved spot. It asks first, because anything you have read since is not part of that save.
- Overwrite · Rename · Delete
- Replace a save with where you are now, give it a different name, or remove it.
- Download all · Upload
- Writes every save — and what you have found — to a single file on your computer, or reads one back in. Keep it as a backup, or move it to another browser or machine.
Loading never takes away what you have found: unlocks are kept across every save. Start from the beginning is the same — it clears your current place and choices, not your saves or what you have found. The file is ordinary text, and you are welcome to read or edit it; it is yours.
The ☰ menu, top right
Opens the menu: the chapter list, your Savegames, what you have found, and the pages out to the wider world. Jump to any chapter whenever you like. Start from the beginning wipes your current place and returns you to the very first line — your saves and your unlocks stay.
The bar, and what is behind it
Myrabelle asks what brings you in, and there are four ways to answer. Each one is its own conversation, each one ends at the same door, and each one is worth a different render — so the way you ask is the thing you get to keep. An answer you have already used comes back with a ✦ beside it; it is still perfectly takeable, it just has nothing new left to give.
Once you have all four, Myrabelle stops making you knock. Her earring becomes the door: hover it and it lights up, click it and you are through. If you would rather not hunt for a hotspot, the same shortcut appears as an ordinary choice in the list.
The door is 18+, and it asks you on the way through. Answering no costs you nothing — Myrabelle shrugs, and the four answers are still there. Dismissing the question without answering counts as a no.
The Gallery
Everything you have unlocked, at full size, with the original 4K file to download if you want it. Renders you have not found yet are shown as empty frames with a note on how to earn them — the shelf tells you how much of it you are missing. Behind those four is the rest of Lockheart's archive, which opens once Myrabelle has let you through the door even once.
Downloads
Patches and extras for Lockheart's games live on the Downloads page. There is nothing on those shelves yet — it says so when you get there.
It asks the 18+ question too, but only once: answer it anywhere on the site and nowhere else will ask again. The answer is kept in this browser and sent nowhere, and starting the story over does not clear it.
Leaving and coming back
You never have to sit through it twice. The address bar tracks the line you are on, so a reload puts you back on it, and a bookmark returns you to it later. If you come back to the site with no particular page in mind, it picks up where you stopped.
A link someone shares with you always wins over that — it opens on the line they meant you to see.
